So, I've done essentially everything you've suggested to the best of my knowledge: I created the Vell-os folder, created the Plug-ins folder within the Vell-os Folder, shift-clicked and started nova, opened the Vell-os folder (as well as the plug-in folder within it), copied my pilots into the Vell-os folder.
